A Chinese vernacular school in Kuala Lumpur gained widespread attention on Facebook last week due to viral photos showcasing their newly renovated restrooms.

On the first day of school, March 11, SJK(C) Chung Kwok shared nine images of their revamped tiled-wall restrooms, featuring automatic flushing sensors for toilets and urinals. The sinks were equipped with faucets and soap dispensers believed to be sensor-operated as well.

The post expressed gratitude, stating, "Thanks to the noble people who have made this possible. The new restrooms in our school will be officially opened today."

As of the latest count, the post has garnered over 2,100 likes and 2,000 shares.

Impressed netizens commented, with one remarking, "Wow, five-star grade restrooms," while others expressed disbelief, saying, "(These restrooms) are more luxurious than mine at home," and "I hope every school has (such beautiful restrooms)."

A representative from SJK(C) Chung Kwok revealed that the renovation spanned approximately three months. When asked about the funding, they mentioned the involvement of numerous contributors, making it challenging to provide a precise figure.

The representative elaborated, "There are many donors. I can't give you the exact figure because some people contributed money, while others contributed effort. Most of the contributors are parents. When the contractors were working on the project, they did not charge us the full amount. The tile dealer also did not charge us the full amount. Some of the parents are interior designers, so they helped (design the toilets). The parents also made suggestions when purchasing electrical wirings, lights, and other miscellaneous items."

They clarified that as SJK(C) Chung Kwok is a semi-private school, no public funds were utilized for the renovation.
