Mother's Plan to Teach 17-Year-Old Son About Hard Work Backfires as He Earns RM6k in 10 Days and Wants to Drop Out of School
A mother from Jiangsu, China, wanted to teach her 17-year-old son the value of hard work by allowing him to join her at work during the semester break. However, the outcome was far beyond what she had anticipated.
In a viral Douyin video shared by @蒙蒙, the mother revealed that her son earned RMB10,000 (about RM6,100) in just 10 days by selling fast food from a cart.
"My goal was to let him experience how difficult life can be so he would appreciate every learning opportunity. I never expected him to enjoy running the business," she explained.
The teenager, who graduated from high school this year and enrolled in a vocational school to study culinary arts, reconsidered his education after making thousands in less than two weeks.
“He told me there’s no point in going back to school. Now, he just wants to follow me and continue setting up the stall,” the mother shared.
Her son would start working at the stall around 4 PM and stay busy until 2 to 3 AM. While he made a significant amount of money in a short time, the mother admitted this was not the result she expected, and her plan backfired.
"I actually wanted him to 'struggle' a little and return to school. I’ve tried many times to persuade him, but he insists on staying with me to run the stall."
The mother reluctantly accepted her son's decision but advised other parents against following her approach.
“I still hope my son will continue his studies,” she added.
