Using a trash bag as a flotation device, an Indonesian man swam from Malaysia to Singapore and stayed for ten months before being arrested
We've often wondered if it would be possible to swim to Singapore, but we all know that given Singapore's strict border controls, it would not be conceivable.
According to CNA, it appears that one Indonesian guy succeeded in doing so, entering the nation and remaining there for ten months before being taken into custody.
According to reports, Muhammad Izal, 34, was denied entry to Singapore in May 2022 and made another attempt to enter the nation a little over six months later.
This time, he travelled to Stulang Laut in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, via ferry from Batam, Indonesia, and spent two nights there.
Then, using a black trash bag as a flotation device, he proceeded to a beach and began swimming in the direction of Pulau Ubin island in Singapore.
After taking a half hour break, he continued swimming to Changi Beach. Before being taken into custody, he was able to reach the coast and remain in the nation for ten months.
Izal allegedly refused to present his documentation when officials requested it while he was at Woodlands Road. On November 2, he was given a sentence of 15 months in prison and seven canings.
Izal had already entered Singapore without a valid pass in May 2022, for which he was prohibited from returning. There had also been four distinct cases of immigration violations before that.
August 2021 was the last time he was charged for entering the nation without a valid pass and leaving and then coming back.
In September 2021, he received a sentence of one year in prison and six canings. He was freed in April 2022. In May 2022, Izal was deported and placed on a ban.
