Over 48,000 Flood Victims in Malaysia, Kelantan Hit Hardest with Power Outages in 30 Areas
Flooding in Kelantan has worsened, prompting the evacuation of more residents from their homes.
In an official statement from TNB Careline, power has been cut in 30 areas across several districts, including:
- Kota Bharu
- Pasir Puteh
- Machang
- Pasir Mas
- Bachok
- Kuala Krai
Kelantan is currently the hardest-hit state, but it is not the only one affected. As of 3 PM today (November 28), a total of 48,886 people nationwide have been relocated to temporary evacuation centers (PPS), with Kelantan reporting the highest number of evacuees at 39,729.
According to data from the Malaysian Department of Social Welfare, Terengganu follows with 7,966 evacuees, while other affected states include:
- Kedah: 844
- Perlis: 280
- Johor: 28
- Perak: 20
Among the evacuees, 685 are male infants, and 629 are female infants. Currently, 398 evacuation centers are in operation to provide shelter and assistance.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that heavy rainfall is expected to continue until Friday, November 29. Kelantan, Terengganu, and two districts in Pahang (Kuantan and Jerantut) have been designated as high-risk zones.
