Thai Mother Successfully Delivers Baby Girl on Kedah's PLUS Highway with Help from PDRM
The Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) recently shared an urgent situation that unfolded on the PLUS Expressway in Sungai Petani, Kedah, involving a Thai national going into labor inside her vehicle.
On the department’s official Facebook page, JSPT posted a video and several photos of the incident, which occurred yesterday (12 February).
During the incident, a Thai family was traveling on the highway in their Thai-registered pickup truck when the woman unexpectedly began experiencing labor pains.
The woman's husband approached the JSPT mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit stationed at the location to seek assistance for an escort to the nearest hospital. However, the woman was too far into labor to be safely transported to the hospital, and she ended up giving birth inside the pickup truck in the emergency lane of the PLUS Expressway.
JSPT disclosed in the post that Inspector Mat Fauzi, Corporal Sharil, and Corporal Hariz Zulfadli from the EMPV Northern Zone (1) of JSPT Bukit Aman played instrumental roles in assisting the Thai family. Thanks to their prompt actions, the foreign woman safely delivered a healthy baby girl inside the pickup truck.
The three JSPT officers organized traffic cones and managed traffic flow to ensure proper space and safety for the woman during labor. Additionally, they contacted emergency health services from the nearby Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.
The emergency health team arrived at the scene and provided assistance to the mother and newborn baby. In one of the photos, the newborn baby is seen wrapped in a towel, carefully held by her grandmother.
Subsequently, both the woman and the newborn baby girl were transported to the hospital for further medical evaluation.
