26-Year-Old Malaysian Woman Missing in Thailand; Kidnappers Demand RM10K from Family, Threaten to Sell Her to Cambodia
Twenty-six-year-old Huang Jia Hui has been missing for over six months, with her current status still unknown as of November 5.
Jia Hui vanished after boarding a flight to Thailand in May 2024. In a media conference on November 4, her brother shared that Jia Hui was supposed to return home after three days but didn’t. Concerned, he contacted her colleagues on May 19.
Unfortunately, her colleagues had no information. Realizing the situation was serious, her brother immediately filed a police report.
One colleague, however, mentioned receiving a WhatsApp video from Jia Hui, in which she said she was at the airport, waiting to board a flight to Thailand.
“My sister never told me anything about going to Thailand. We tried contacting her through various means, but we couldn’t reach her.”
Another case of trafficking in Cambodia?
As the search for Jia Hui expanded, her family turned to social media for help. On June 4, her brother received a WhatsApp message from an unknown man claiming that Jia Hui was with him.
The man demanded RM10,000 in ransom, threatening to sell Jia Hui to Cambodia if the family didn’t pay. When her brother asked to speak with Jia Hui, the request was denied. Due to the suspicious circumstances, the family decided not to pay. To date, the mysterious man has not reached out again.
Earlier, when the family filed a police report, authorities informed them that similar cases had been reported. They also checked with the Immigration Department, but Jia Hui’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Currently, a missing person’s report has been filed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Jia Hui, who is divorced, has two children.
Her family is hoping for her safe return soon.
