Chinese Woman Spends 2 Years Renovating the Wrong Flat, Homeowner Agrees to Swap Units
Woman in China Realizes She Spent Two Years Renovating the Wrong Apartment
A woman from Jiangsu province, China, recently discovered she had been mistakenly renovating the wrong apartment for two years.
Instead of working on her unit located on the sixth floor, Ms. Dong (name transliterated from Chinese) had unknowingly been remodeling a unit on the eighth floor.
The confusion arose because the building lacked door numbers, and the elevator was out of service, forcing her to count the floors manually. However, Ms. Dong overlooked the presence of two model units on the lower floors, leading to the error.
Adding to the mix-up, the key to the eighth-floor unit was left in its door, allowing her to access the apartment without suspicion. Acting on her instructions, workers completed the renovations without realizing the mistake.
Eighth-Floor Owner Agrees to Swap Units
The owner of the eighth-floor unit had not visited the property during the renovation period. They only learned about the error after being contacted by the property manager.
After discussions, the owner agreed to swap units with Ms. Dong, allowing her to keep the one she had already renovated.
“I’m so relieved they were understanding,” Ms. Dong shared, expressing gratitude for the amicable resolution.
