“Stop the Dirty Tactics” – DAP MP Criticizes PAS for Inciting Racial Tensions Over China Flag Incident
Recently, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) launched an investigation after a video went viral showing a group of foreigners waving Chinese flags during a celebration outside the Leaning Tower in Teluk Intan, Perak.
Following the incident, around 400 people, including members of various NGOs and PAS, gathered in front of the Leaning Tower to wave Jalur Gemilang flags, condemning the display.
“This is purely political exploitation.”
DAP politician Syerleena Rashid voiced her thoughts on TikTok, accusing PAS of turning the Chinese flag incident in Teluk Intan into a racial issue. Syerleena expressed frustration, stating that a simple act of flag-raising should be handled legally rather than inflamed into a racial controversy.
“How does PAS expect support from non-Muslims if they keep stirring racial tensions? The Chinese flag incident is being shamelessly exploited for political gain!”
“Don’t twist my words.”
Syerleena clarified that she does not support waving foreign flags in Malaysia and emphasized that priority should be given to the Jalur Gemilang. She criticized PAS Perak Commissioner Razman Zakaria’s comments as inflammatory, saying they only stoke racial discord.
“Don’t you twist my words to make it seem like I support the Chinese flag incident. Razman even referenced a movie on resistance against the British at the gathering. What does raising a Chinese flag have to do with anti-colonialism?”
“Enough of these divisive tactics.”
Syerleena also pointed out Razman’s remarks questioning Malays working with non-Malays, to which she responded,
“What about Malays employed by Chinese businesses? Does that make them traitors, too? And out of nowhere, he even brings up the UEC issue.”
She added that Razman’s appeal for unity based solely on shared skin color and background is a dangerous, divisive approach, bringing to mind darker times in history.
“Malaysians are tired of these divisive tactics. To all my fellow Malaysians, regardless of ethnicity, let’s stand united to protect the harmony of our country,” she concluded.
