"Sleeping" Man Discovered in Alor Gajah Surau Had Been Dead for 3 Days
On Sunday, 16 June, a man was found dead in the prayer area of a surau in Pekan Kuala Sungai Baru, Alor Gajah.
It is believed he had been deceased for more than three days.
According to Kosmo!, Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah stated that the body, belonging to a man in his 40s, was discovered by a market worker around 11am.
"A witness who came to pray at the surau saw the man lying face down in the back corner and assumed he was sleeping soundly.
"The man's death was only realized after a market worker noticed an unpleasant odour and found that he had not moved for several days," Ashari said.
The small prayer area where the man was discovered is rarely used by locals.
Ashari noted that the deceased's identification was found in his pants pocket, and it is believed he lived alone and was unmarried.
"There were no signs of injury on the body, and an autopsy performed at Hospital Alor Gajah revealed that he died of a heart attack.
"His next of kin have identified the body, and the case has been classified as a sudden death," he added.
