Ramadhan Bazaar Vendor Laments Lowest Earnings in a Decade, with Daily Profits Below RM100
The food and beverage industry is often regarded as one of the most lucrative sectors, yet like any business, it experiences its share of ups and downs. Economic fluctuations are inevitable, particularly when consumer spending tightens.
A vendor at the Ramadhan Bazaar in Segamat, Johor, acknowledged the unexpectedly challenging circumstances this year. Contrary to common assumptions, not all F&B businesses yield substantial profits. This year, she disclosed that her daily earnings hadn't even surpassed RM100.
"It's not as glamorous as people think. Many vendors, myself included, have faced significant losses this year, struggling to turn a profit."
Beyond concerns about food wastage, the vendor also fretted over the welfare of her employees and rental fees, as reported by Sin Chew.
"At this rate, given the poor sales, I can't afford to compensate my staff."
She further noted that neighboring vendors had taken three-day breaks due to the lack of profitability this year, echoing sentiments from others who described this as the worst downturn in a decade.
Despite the adversity, the vendor affirmed her determination to persist at the Ramadhan Bazaar, refusing to succumb to despair.
"I'm not giving up yet. But I wish people wouldn't assume we're raking in profits."
