Muslim Eatery Owner Addresses Boycott Threats Over Feeding Stray Dogs Near Her Stall
A Johor eatery owner has found joy in feeding stray dogs that wander near her restaurant, but her actions have drawn criticism from some netizens, including boycott threats from customers who claim her actions are “haram.”
In a TikTok video on her account, @salaistar, the owner explained that as a Muslim, she sees nothing wrong with feeding stray animals, including dogs.
“They are also God’s creations,” she said.
For those unfamiliar, Muslims are required to perform a cleansing ritual called “samak” if they come into physical contact with dogs. However, the owner clarified that she only feeds the stray dogs without touching them.
In her post, she reminded her audience of the importance of compassion, emphasizing that animals, including dogs, are also part of God’s creations and deserve care and protection.
“Some people sent me messages, scolding me and saying I shouldn’t feed the dogs, but they are God’s creations too. As an animal lover, I feel deeply connected to them,” she shared.
Addressing those threatening to boycott her business, she urged them to reconsider:
“To those messaging me about boycotting, please stop. I hope you understand my intentions and refrain from tarnishing my restaurant’s reputation.”
She also shared that her compassion extends beyond dogs, as she feeds other animals like birds and monkeys.
Additionally, she expressed her belief in reducing food waste by giving leftovers to animals, a practice that not only prevents wastage but also brings blessings.
