PMX: Raya Doesn't Bring Additional Holidays, Upholding Work Enthusiasm Instead
Currently, the 1st and 2nd day of Raya are anticipated to occur on April 10th and 11th. Following these two public holidays, on Friday (April 12th), most Malaysians are slated to resume work after enjoying a two-day break before the weekend.
Many individuals may have intended to take a day off from work on Friday to extend the holiday weekend. However, it seems there won't be an additional public holiday on April 12th, as Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the importance of maintaining work motivation.
During a recent media interaction, PM Anwar expressed the necessity for a strong work ethic, stating, "We need to have the spirit for work." This declaration comes amidst inquiries about the possibility of an extra day off.
Anwar made these remarks at an Iftar event yesterday (March 28), where he joined 10,000 attendees to break fast on Nuzul Al-Quran day. His wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah, was also present at the event, distributing financial aid totaling RM110,000 to the needy, contributed by LHDN and TNB.
It's worth noting that last year, Anwar granted an additional holiday to facilitate Malaysians' travel plans for Raya celebrations. In 2023, Raya fell on April 22nd and 23rd, both being weekend days, resulting in a long weekend that extended until April 25th (Tuesday).
Additionally, Anwar recently announced that there won't be Raya bonuses for civil servants this year, citing the RM2,000 incentive received in February as an early Raya bonus.
