June 3rd Declared Public Holiday for Agong's Birthday
The Prime Minister's Department has confirmed that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday will continue to be a public holiday on June 3rd this year.
In a statement on May 16, the department announced that the coronation of the 17th King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, will take place on July 20 at Istana Negara.
"His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim took and signed the oath of office as the 17th King of Malaysia on January 31, 2024. Therefore, with His Majesty's consent, the government will organize several events in conjunction with the coronation," the statement read.
To accommodate the coronation, the celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday, usually held in June, will be postponed to September.
Since 2021, the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been celebrated on the first Monday of June and is a gazetted public holiday.
