Penang Island Parking Fees to Rise by 50% Starting March 2025
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Smart Parking (PSP) users on Penang Island will face a 50% hike in parking fees at designated locations starting March 2025.
With the new rates, parking fees will rise from RM0.40 to RM0.60 for 30 minutes, RM0.80 to RM1.20 for an hour, and RM6 to RM9 for a full day.
The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) approved the adjustments on Tuesday (Nov 26).
Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran explained that the increase aims to fund the maintenance of parking sensors and system upgrades.
“This is not about making a profit. Our priority is to ensure the system runs smoothly and continues to serve users effectively. It also helps regulate parking times to ensure fair access for everyone,” he said at the City Hall meeting in Esplanade.
