PDRM: Woman in Penang Allegedly Splashes Hot Water at OKU Victim in Lift Over 'Misunderstanding'
A disturbing incident unfolded in Bayan Lepas, Penang, recently, capturing national attention as a woman was recorded pouring hot water on a 33-year-old man with Down Syndrome inside an elevator of an apartment building. The victim sustained burns on his right side as a result of the attack.
The woman was apprehended by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at 9:21 PM on April 19, and the case is under investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt intentionally.
According to Barat Daya District Police Chief Supt Kamarul Rizal, the incident stemmed from a 'misunderstanding' between the two individuals. However, the specific nature of this misunderstanding was not disclosed. The ongoing investigation has revealed that the woman and the victim are acquaintances who reside in the same apartment complex.
Kamarul Rizal stated, "Based on the investigation, the woman and the victim know each other because they live in the same building at the apartment complex. As of the investigation so far, the incident was due to a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim involving a sensitive issue that has taken place since 3 to 4 years ago."
The suspect, identified as a sales assistant, has no reported mental health issues. The victim is undergoing medical treatment, and the police are arranging further examinations for his injuries. Statements from three witnesses have been recorded to aid the investigation. Currently, the victim is stable and receiving treatment at Penang Hospital (HPP).
