PDRM Officer Criticized for Reacting with Anger as Lorry Failed to Halt Promptly for Escort
While Malaysians have grown accustomed to witnessing police officers escorting VIPs on the roads, the experience of being required to yield to them remains unsettling. Despite our obligation to comply with the law and yield, the nature of our vehicles often makes it challenging to stop promptly when confronted with a PDRM escort.
Recent events have sparked outrage among Malaysians, directed towards the police, following an incident where a PDRM officer expressed frustration towards a lorry driver for not swiftly stopping for an escort to pass. Amran Fans took to Twitter to share a video of the incident, highlighting the ordeal.
He remarked, "Even if you intend to obstruct the path for a VVIP, you must consider the limitations of the vehicle you're halting, especially if it's a lorry. Can one expect a lorry to come to an immediate halt when braking?"
"Let this serve as a lesson for future incidents."
In the footage captured from the lorry driver's perspective, a PDRM officer is observed blocking traffic to facilitate the passage of the escort. Despite the lorry decelerating and eventually coming to a stop, the officer is seen displaying signs of anger towards the driver for the delay.
Netizens expressed discontent, believing that the lorry driver had made reasonable efforts to comply with the situation and criticized the officer's reaction.
"If anything goes wrong, don't blame the lorry. It's unreasonable to expect it to halt abruptly, like a Myvi."
"PDRM, should there be an IQ test before recruitment?"
"He seems to have skipped physics class. Forgot to think. Common sense seems to have escaped him. Does he expect a large lorry to stop instantly?"
"Did he secure the job through connections? Did he skip his education? It's absurd to expect a lorry to stop like a motorbike."
