"Paris Could Learn from This!" – Malaysians Amazed by SUKMA Sarawak's Opening Ceremony
Over 40,000 spectators had the privilege of witnessing the spectacular opening ceremony of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 on the night of August 17.
The event dazzled the audience with luminous drones, vibrant laser beams, rhythmic drum beats, and skilled dancers. The performers represented various ethnic groups, giving the ceremony a warm, homegrown feel.
Astro Arena shared a snippet of the colorful event on its X page, suggesting that the Paris Olympics could take a cue from SUKMA.
"Paris? What Paris? Paris should learn from SUKMA Sarawak!"
"This is on par with the Beijing Olympics."
Social media users were equally captivated by the fantastic opening of SUKMA Sarawak 2024, with many pointing out that the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 has a tough act to follow.
"Well done, Sarawak. The SUKMA opening ceremony is far superior to that of the Paris Olympics."
"There's a reason Sarawak is pulling out all the stops this time. They're aiming to co-host the SEA Games in 2027, with Kuching as the location for the opening ceremony. SUKMA is their way of impressing the Malaysian government and proving they deserve to host the SEA Games," noted one user.
"Come on, France. This is how you do an opening ceremony—no need for LGBT elements, rockers, or dirty water. I feel sorry for the swimmer who had to swim there," commented another.
