Pahang Crown Prince Calls for Impartial Investigation Into Royal Family Member Accused of Criminal Assault
The Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, issued a statement on September 5 urging the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to promptly conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into a criminal incident allegedly involving a member of the Pahang Royal family.
Tengku Hassanal expressed serious concern over viral news reports alleging that a member of the Pahang Royal family, along with a group, attacked an individual named Alias Awang with sharp weapons and a pistol, resulting in injuries to the victim in Kuantan, Pahang.
The Crown Prince emphasized that everyone is equal before the law, including members of the royal family. He appeared to reference a Malaysiakini report in which a 44-year-old construction worker from Kuantan claimed to have been stabbed and shot at by a member of the Pahang Royal family.
Tengku Hassanal stressed that if any evidence of wrongdoing is found, the case must be brought to court for prosecution and trial. He reiterated his stance that he will not protect any party, including royal family members, involved in criminal or illegal activities.
He stated, “Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, and I will never protect any party, including members of the Royal family who are involved in criminal or illegal activities.”
