Green Lights On, But All 17 Immigration Counters at Johor Checkpoint Unstaffed; Investigations Underway
A viral video shows 17 immigration counters at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Gelang Patah, Johor Bahru, left unattended despite green lights indicating they were operational.
Following public outrage, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, Chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee, conducted a surprise inspection at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at KSAB. He confirmed that the counters were unmanned and lanes were blocked, despite the green lights being on. The lights were then switched to red to avoid confusing drivers.
Fazli stated, "If no valid reason is provided for this incident, it could be considered a deliberate act."
Meanwhile, Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus announced that an internal investigation is underway to determine whether officers neglected their duties or left the counters without permission. Rusdi emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated and warned that strict disciplinary action would follow if any wrongdoing is found.
"We cannot accept if they indeed left the counters unmanned without permission. It is a breach of responsibility, and I take this issue seriously," Rusdi said.
