Man With Long Hair Mistaken for a Woman, Prompted to Wear Hijab in Mosque
Recently, a video surfaced on social media depicting a security guard at the National Mosque confronting a man with long hair and instructing him to cover up. In the 36-second footage, the man, seated inside the mosque, was approached by a female security guard who insisted he wear a robe.
"You need to put on this robe. Could you please go and put it on? It's inappropriate to be dressed like this in public," the security guard stated.
However, the man clarified, "But I'm a man."
Despite his explanation, the security guard remained adamant, insisting he change his attire.
"I am not a woman, and I am not obligated to cover my hair. It is not required as part of my modesty," the man asserted.
Following the incident, the National Mosque issued a public apology to the individual involved. The mosque clarified that it viewed the matter seriously and had taken action against the security guard.
"The security personnel in question have been reprimanded and reminded to exercise greater sensitivity in their duties.
"It is important to note that the security personnel are employed through a third-party security company, contracted via government procurement procedures," the mosque's statement emphasized.
The National Mosque expressed regret to both the individual affected and the public impacted by the video. Furthermore, it reaffirmed its commitment to preventing similar occurrences in the future to uphold the institution's reputation and integrity.
