Malaysian Spends RM9 on Roti Canai and RM11 on Roti Telur at Pahang Eatery
In a widely shared Facebook post by Malaysian individual Hairil Aien, he posted pictures of local dishes enjoyed with his family at a restaurant in Pahang. According to the receipts, two servings of Roti Canai amounted to RM18, translating to RM9 per piece.
Observing the food images, the Roti Canai appeared typical of what one might find in any Mamak restaurant. Additionally, Hairil ordered a serving of plain Nasi Lemak with side Sambal and essential condiments, costing him RM10. Interestingly, a piece of Roti Telur was priced RM2 higher than the Roti Canai at RM11.
The grand total, inclusive of taxes, tallied up to RM45.
In a sarcastic tone, Hairil remarked, “A flatbread that soars 1,800 meters high in the air” in reference to the seemingly elevated price.
Considering the cost, one could have dined at a Mamak restaurant for the same meal three times over. So, did the RM9 flatbread offer a superior taste compared to the usual fare?
Hairil mentioned that although the portion of the flatbread was marginally larger than usual, regrettably, it tasted identical to those he had on regular occasions.
“It tasted exactly like the ones I had in the warung, despite the size,” he noted.
Hairil clarified that his initial post aimed to garner feedback from his Facebook friends, and he did not anticipate the subsequent online uproar.
