‘Malaysia Is the Craziest’ – IShowSpeed Amazed as Crowds Swell, Forcing Restaurant to Close While He Eats
American online sensation Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, sparked a frenzy in Malaysia today as crowds of fans swarmed to catch a glimpse of him during his visit to Kuala Lumpur.
The 18-year-old YouTuber, who has 30.1 million subscribers, was mobbed by enthusiastic fans at several locations across the capital, leading to chaotic scenes that required the involvement of bodyguards and local authorities.
Southeast Asia Tour
IShowSpeed, famous for his high-energy gaming streams and viral antics, is currently on a Southeast Asia tour, having already visited the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia. His arrival in Malaysia continued the trend of fan frenzy seen throughout his tour.
One of the most chaotic moments occurred at the Jalan Alor food market, where Watkins tried the iconic durian fruit.
What began as a relatively calm live stream soon escalated into near chaos as the crowd around him became increasingly uncontrollable.
Fans jostled to get closer to the YouTuber, forcing him to cut his visit short and make a hasty exit.
His next stop was Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, where he dined at the ‘Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger’ restaurant.
Watkins even had a brief video call with Uncle Roger, praising his egg fried rice.
The shopping mall was flooded with fans, prompting the restaurant to close its doors to prevent further overcrowding.
"Malaysia is the craziest"
At the peak of his live stream, nearly 328,000 viewers tuned in as Watkins chatted with Uncle Roger via video call while being stuck inside the restaurant.
During the nearly five-hour broadcast, Watkins gained over 82,000 new subscribers.
"In terms of craziness, this might be number one out of the whole tour," Watkins remarked, clearly taken aback by the fervor of his Malaysian fans.
Though he expressed his love for Malaysia, the intensity of the fan response persisted.
At one point, Watkins found himself trapped in a hotel as fans continued to follow him, despite his attempts to seek refuge.
“Bro, Sabar!”
As his bodyguards and local staff struggled to manage the crowd, Watkins became visibly frustrated.
He was heard pleading with fans to calm down, using the Malaysian Arabic term “sabar” (patience): “Bro, sabar! Chill out!”
Despite the overwhelming fan reaction, Watkins acknowledged Malaysia as a highlight of his Southeast Asia tour so far, even though fans reportedly caused damage to an escalator and banged on the windows of his car as he tried to leave.
IShowSpeed’s tour will continue with his next stop in Singapore. However, after the chaotic scenes in Malaysia, it remains to be seen if his reception will be as intense in his upcoming destinations.
