Malaysian Men's Doubles Shuttlers Sze Fei & Izzuddin Claim Japan Open Title
Malaysian men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani clinched the biggest title of their careers by winning the Japan Open Super 750 today.
Ranked world No. 12, they delivered a stellar performance, defeating South Korean world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae with a score of 21-19, 21-15 at Yokohama Arena.
With this victory, they became the first Malaysian men’s doubles team to win the tournament since Chan Chong Ming and Chew Choon Eng achieved the same feat in 2002.
This marks their fifth World Tour title, but it’s particularly significant as their previous wins were in Super 300 or lower-tier tournaments.
The duo took home a US$62,900 (RM275,226) prize, the largest of their career so far, at the Badminton World Tour Super 750 Series.
Their triumph comes as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently agreed to let Sze Fei and Izzuddin turn professional. In a council meeting yesterday, BAM announced it would honor their decision and release them effective September 1.
Congratulations to the duo!
