It was later disclosed that Derrick's commitment to backing the national squad led him to part ways with his Yamaha LC5s motorcycle, fetching RM4,500, to secure airfare to Qatar.

Online observers lauded Derrick's profound allegiance to the Malaysian team, with some suggesting that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) should honor him for his dedication.
