Malaysia Cinema Introduces First-Ever Hotpot Experience with Movie
Moviegoers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will soon have the unique opportunity to enjoy hotpot while watching a movie at Dadi Cinema in Pavilion. The cinema operator recently shared on Facebook that it hosted its first hotpot cinema session during the premiere of "The Unwavering Brotherhood," exclusively for a group of influencers.
Dadi Cinema announced that the first "hotpot cinema" in Malaysia will be launched soon.
Details on how it works remain scarce, but photos from Dadi Cinemas show patrons enjoying their hotpot at the cinema's Star+ Hall. Each moviegoer has a table set with hotpot ingredients and a personal pan, all while relaxing in premium twin leatherette recliner seats. According to an entertainment page, patrons can choose from mala soup, tomato soup, or chicken collagen soup as their hotpot base.
Although this is Malaysia’s first hotpot cinema, similar experiences have been offered in Chinese movie theatres since last year. Dadi Cinema Group, which is the second-largest cinema chain in China, opened its first theatre in Malaysia in 2021.
Online reactions have raised concerns about potential hygiene issues, such as attracting pests if cleanliness is not maintained. Additionally, the challenge of dining in the dark with hot soup poses a safety risk, and there are concerns about lingering odors in the theater.
