‘He Cleansed Penang with a Tsunami’ – Former Member Exposes GISBH's Strange Beliefs About Their Late Leader

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) isn't the only source uncovering details about the deviant GISBH organization. Several former members have also come forward to reveal their experiences within GISBH.

In a recent TikTok podcast by @crowdedroompodcast, a Malaysian woman named Zoey shared disturbing accounts from her time as a member of GISBH. She described how many followers believed their late leader, Haji Ashaari Mohammad, also known as Abuya, was capable of extraordinary, almost supernatural feats.

One such belief involves the 2004 tsunami that devastated parts of Indonesia and Malaysia, including Penang. Some members claimed the disaster was orchestrated by Abuya.

“There was a concert happening the same day as the disaster, and members believed that Abuya wanted to cleanse Penang,” Zoey explained.

In the eyes of his followers, Abuya was more than just a man. Zoey shared that members not only worshipped God but also viewed Abuya as a celestial figure. In fact, seeking Abuya's forgiveness was seen as crucial for salvation.

“I made a mistake once, and I was told to seek Abuya’s forgiveness. They said if he didn’t forgive me, Allah wouldn’t even acknowledge me,” Zoey recalled.

Zoey also revealed bizarre rituals involving Abuya's body. She said his body hair, including his beard, was mixed into water for members to drink.

There were even rumors that some GISBH-linked restaurants allegedly prepared food using water that had been in contact with Abuya’s feet, though these restaurants have since denied such claims. Although Abuya passed away in 2010, many followers still believe he is alive and quietly watching over them.
