Where Is JAKIM? – Malaysians Outraged by RM25 Million Allocation for GISBH Children's Recovery Program
During the presentation of Budget 2025 in Parliament on Friday, October 18, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM25 million allocation to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community. The funds are designated for managing the recovery of abused children involved in the Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) case and implementing a faith recovery program for them.
However, this announcement sparked widespread outrage online. Many argue that taxpayer money, especially such a substantial amount, should not be used to manage the recovery of these children.
While acknowledging that the children require support and guidance after their ordeal, netizens emphasized that funding should either come from GISBH (given that the abuse occurred at their premises) or from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
One vocal critic was the Hector of Sector 470 X page, which posted, “I pay my taxes, reducing what I can spend on my kids, but the MADANI government has no issue allocating RM25 million for the cult children. Any funds should come from GISBH’s assets, which are worth RM52 million.”
They also questioned the allocation's size, stating, “If 400 children need RM25 million for faith recovery, that’s RM62,500 per child. Are they holding recovery classes in a 6-star hotel?”
The post further highlighted concerns about GISBH’s role: “GISBH’s assets can’t be liquidated in a day due to procedures, but PMX cannot ensure their assets will be used for the recovery program. Why should taxpayers bear the cost when GISBH or JAKIM’s RM2 billion budget could easily cover it?”
