Uncle Kentang Launches RM6 Meal Coupons to Provide Full Meals for Underprivileged Students
Moved by the struggles of underprivileged students often going hungry while pursuing higher education, Malaysian philanthropist Uncle Kentang has stepped in with a compassionate initiative.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, he introduced Kind Hearts Meals, a program offering RM6 meal coupons to students at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Sungai Long. These coupons allow students to enjoy affordable, full meals, such as nasi lemak from a generous stall owner or mixed rice from a caring pastor near the university.
Announcing the initiative, Uncle Kentang wrote, “UTAR students of Sungai Long, we have launched Kind Hearts Meals for students in need. You can focus on your studies; we will handle your meals.”
The nasi lemak stall owner, described as a "warrior" by Uncle Kentang, is known for her kindness, often encouraging students to add meat to their meals even when they hesitate due to cost. Similarly, the pastor, who runs the MR.B Mixed Rice stall, treats the students like his own children and offers affordable meals.
Expanding the program, Uncle Kentang also launched the initiative at Tunku Abdul Rahman University (TAR) in Setapak. Posters promoting Kind Hearts Meals were displayed, and meal coupons distributed to students in need.
He shared the stories of two struggling students to highlight the importance of the program. One student, whose parents work in a factory with limited income, is encouraged by his family to study hard despite financial challenges. Another student from Papar, Sabah, lost his father years ago and relies on his mother, a low-income cleaner, to support his education.
Through the Kind Hearts Meals initiative, Uncle Kentang aims to ease the burdens of students and their families. He hopes to see more universities and colleges participate in this meaningful program.
