Supernatural Side Hustle: Pontianak's Viral Serenade Delights Malaysians at Jonker Street Eatery
Following the aftermath of COVID-19, numerous Malaysians are gradually navigating their way back into the workforce to regain stability. However, a humorous video shared by a Malaysian tourist, captured during a visit to Jonker Street in Melaka, suggests that humans aren't the only ones seeking better opportunities.
In a TikTok clip posted by a Malaysian known as Coach Zainal on his page @jinalajim, he shared a unique encounter while dining at a Jonker Street eatery. The video pans across fellow diners enjoying their meals before revealing a makeshift stage just a few feet away. On that stage, a Malaysian dressed as the Pontianak, a Malaysian ghost, passionately serenaded the audience with the 1994 song "Umpan Jinak Di Air Tenang" by Ahmad Jais.
Playfully captioning his post, Coach Zainal wrote, "When ghosts finish their work shift." The video garnered a substantial online response, with many Malaysians playfully teasing the Pontianak, all in good humor.
"Even ghosts are feeling the economic impact nowadays," quipped one user, while others expressed admiration for the ghost's enjoyment of traditional Malaysian songs. Another user humorously suggested that even ghosts get tired of haunting the living and choose to entertain them instead. Some were pleasantly surprised by the ghost's impressive vocal talent, with one user jokingly remarking, "She has to find part-time work; life is quite difficult now."
