Singaporean Woman Discovers Shah Alam Hotel, Featured on Agoda, to be Abandoned for Several Years
A Singaporean woman experienced a startling revelation when she visited a Shah Alam hotel recently, only to discover it in a dilapidated and abandoned state. This discovery was perplexing considering the same hotel was actively listed on the popular global online travel platform Agoda, a subsidiary of Booking Holdings.
Sharing her experience on TikTok, the woman, @mischarielle, posted screenshots from the Agoda app, one of which indicated that the deserted Carlton Hotel Shah Alam was a "Great choice." Additionally, the app prominently featured the abandoned hotel as the top option for accommodations in Shah Alam on August 30 and 31. However, it also indicated that the hotel's rooms were sold out on those dates.
Another screenshot displayed positive reviews for the abandoned hotel on Agoda, boasting a rating of 6.7 out of 10. Contrary to these online representations, @mischarielle, upon personally visiting the hotel, found it empty and abandoned for an extended period.
Capturing footage during a nighttime visit to the site, her video conveyed an eerie atmosphere. Despite her firsthand experience, a quick search revealed that the hotel, situated in Shah Alam's Section 13, remained actively listed on Agoda at the time of writing. This persisted despite the hotel having closed in 2020 due to the pandemic.
In the video's comments section, numerous Malaysians who had visited the hotel in the past expressed shock at the revelation that the hotel had been abandoned for years. One commenter shared that the hotel used to be their favorite spot for karaoke, while another reminisced about attending an interview there.
