Seremban Traffic Officer in ICU with Memory Loss After Being Hit by 17-Year-Old Mat Rempit
A 36-year-old police officer from the Seremban District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) suffered severe injuries after being hit by a 17-year-old illegal street racer, known locally as a ‘Mat Rempit,’ on 28 July. The crash has left the officer with memory loss.
According to Harian Metro, Negeri Sembilan JSPT Chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat stated that the officer has not yet returned to work and is still in recovery. More than a month after the incident, he continues to struggle with memory loss.
Although the officer was discharged from the hospital on 16 August, he remains unable to resume his duties. Superintendent Muhammad Zaki mentioned that while the officer, a father of four, is showing signs of improvement, he remains mostly quiet due to his ongoing memory challenges. The Negeri Sembilan JSPT team and his colleagues frequently visit to provide support and assistance.
The incident occurred at around 2 am on 28 July when the Mat Rempit, riding against traffic, collided with the officer at kilometer 36 of the Seremban-Kajang Highway (Lekas) during an 'Ops Samseng Jalanan' operation. Both the officer and the 17-year-old suspect were on motorcycles and were taken to Hospital Tuanku Jaafar (HTJ) for treatment. The officer sustained severe head injuries and was admitted to the ICU.
The suspect is under investigation and will soon be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If convicted, he could face up to 5 years in jail and a fine ranging from RM5,000 to RM15,000.
