PMX: Civil Servants to Receive Record-Breaking 13% Salary Increase from RM10 Billion Fund
Previously, we discussed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's hint to civil servants regarding an upcoming salary increase by the year's end, affirming that the Federal Government would "explore avenues" to make it happen.
In line with his promise, Anwar officially unveiled a salary increase of over 13% for civil servants during his address at the National Labour Day 2024 celebration in Putrajaya today.
An allocation of more than RM10 billion has been earmarked for implementing this significant salary hike, as confirmed by the Prime Minister.
Anwar emphasized that the increase, set to take effect from December this year, represents the highest and most substantial increment in Malaysian history, stating, "The increase will exceed 13%... The most significant raise in history by the MADANI Government."
Additionally, as the Finance Minister, Anwar highlighted the ongoing revision of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), ensuring that the minimum income for civil servants will surpass RM2,000 monthly. This marks a significant departure from the current overall minimum income of RM1,795, inclusive of salaries and fixed allowances.
Moreover, Anwar announced that both the Sabah and Sarawak Governments have agreed to amend their respective labour ordinances to align with the Employment Act 1955 applicable to Peninsular Malaysia. He revealed that two separate bills for these amendments will be presented in Parliament soon.
