One Fatality and Another Injured as Tree Collapses onto Road and Monorail Track along KL's Jalan Sultan Ismail
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has verified the demise of a 47-year-old man in an incident where a sizable tree collapsed in downtown Kuala Lumpur, just outside the Concorde Hotel on Jalan Sultan Ismail.
In an announcement made this afternoon, the department confirmed that a second individual, aged 26, sustained injuries and was receiving medical attention at the location at the time of the statement.
"Two individuals were rescued by the team. The initial victim, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced deceased by Health Ministry officials, while the second victim, a 26-year-old man, who suffered injuries, is currently under the care of Health Ministry paramedics on-site," it stated.
Furthermore, the fire department affirmed that a substantial tree had fallen onto the road, resulting in damage to 17 vehicles and a bus stop.
It also noted that the tree's branches were now obstructing the path of the monorail that traverses above the road.
According to the statement, the fire department received an emergency call at approximately 2:19 pm, which led to personnel from four fire stations being dispatched to the scene as the initial responders.
The operational team from the Hang Tuah Road Operations Base (BBP), accompanied by three auxiliary stations, namely Titiwangsa, Jalan Tun Razak, and Sentul BBP, mobilized FRT-4 and EMRS-4 vehicles, comprising a total of 27 personnel of various ranks.
