Nightmarish Workplace: Employer Demands Malaysian Employee to Cover RM700 Monthly Ad Boosting Costs on a RM600 Salary
In a recent viral tweet shared by user @onlyyouperson, he revealed his harrowing experience at a workplace he aptly dubbed the "company from hell."
According to the tweet, the company imposed a mandatory monthly expenditure of RM700 for ad boosting. In one particular month, despite receiving only RM600 as his salary, the employee had to fork out an additional RM100 from his own pocket for the ad boosting requirement.
A conversation between the man and his colleagues was also included in the tweet, where one co-worker sternly reminded him of the agreed-upon ad boosting expense during the interview. The colleague questioned why the instructions were not being followed and even went as far as threatening the man with a warning letter. Another co-worker chimed in, asserting that the man's reasons for not complying with the ad boosting requirement were unacceptable.
The tweet further detailed that the employee was also obligated to submit a daily report before 7 pm, with a late submission incurring a RM10 charge labeled as a "sales fund."
Expressing financial difficulties, the man explained that despite earning RM1,500 per month, deductions for SOCSO and EPF for the 12th month had already been made due to his late start in the 11th month. This left him with only RM600, making it challenging to allocate the required RM700 monthly for ad boosting.
Adding to the frustration, the man mentioned that he was instructed to double the ad boosting expenses for the following month, amounting to RM1,400, despite this rule not being outlined in his initial offer letter.
Netizens were quick to react, expressing disbelief at the company's expectation for employees to use personal funds for ad boosting. Some suggested that the company should provide the RM700 upfront for such expenses. Others recommended seeking assistance from the labor department, emphasizing that the situation was beyond unfair treatment.
Despite the challenges, the tweet concluded with a reflection on the opportunity to build resilience in the face of workplace adversity, both in dealings with others and for personal peace of mind.
