Ministry of Works Announces Toll-Free Highways on February 8th and 9th to Alleviate Financial Strain During Chinese New Year
Some of you may have correctly anticipated it. In line with the Chinese New Year celebrations, Dato Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi of the Ministry of Works has declared that Malaysian road users will enjoy toll-free travel on Thursday and Friday (February 8th and 9th).
This toll exemption applies specifically to Class 1 Transport (Private vehicles). According to a statement posted on Alexander's Facebook page today (February 7th), this initiative aligns with the government's commitment to protecting the welfare of citizens and alleviating financial burdens.
However, the toll exemptions will not apply to the following locations:
- The Sultan Iskandar Building toll plazas
- Tanjung Kupang toll plazas
- Toll plazas at the country borders
These toll exemptions will be effective on all highways from 12:01 a.m. tomorrow (February 8th) until 11:59 p.m. the following day. As many Malaysians embark on their "balik kampung" journeys, it's advisable for road users to plan their routes and seek alternative paths to avoid traffic congestion.
Additionally, it's recommended to top up your Touch 'n Go card before traveling to prevent delays at toll plazas.
