The linguistic skills of a Sabahan tour guide recently caught the attention of Malaysians, leaving many impressed by his ability to communicate effortlessly with foreign tourists.
A video shared by Percutian Kundasang, a Kota Kinabalu-based travel agency, went viral on Facebook, showing the Malaysian tour guide speaking fluent Italian with a couple from Italy.
Sabahan tour guide wows Malaysians with his fluent Italian skills
The video, recorded at a retail store, shows the tour guide assisting the Italian tourists in communicating with vendors selling pearls. He helped explain in detail the differences between sea and freshwater pearls and their pricing.
Throughout the video, the tour guide speaks fluent Italian, using the expressive hand gestures Italians are known for.
The video’s overlay text reads, “POV: When customers from Italy can’t speak English,” highlighting the guide’s language prowess.
Malaysians were impressed by his linguistic talents.
In the comments, many Malaysians praised the guide’s language skills. One Sabahan noted that the guide is well-known for his fluency in multiple languages and his talent for singing.
Another commenter pointed out that it’s rare to find someone in Malaysia fluent in Latin-based languages like Italian and Spanish, as many Malaysians prefer East Asian languages due to the popularity of K-dramas and Japanese culture.
