Malaysians Flock to See the Cat from Viral Penang Fight
Last week, a video of two grown men fighting at a convenience store in Seberang Jaya, Penang, went viral due to its chaotic nature and the humorous ending where one of the fighters was knocked to the ground. Amid the chaos, an unlikely star emerged: a grey tabby cat that nonchalantly observed the brawl.
Visitors flock to see the cat featured in viral Penang fight Although the men have since apologized and made peace, the public remains fascinated by the viral clip, especially the cat that unwittingly became part of the scene.
Speaking to Oriental Daily, Wu Ye Rong (transliteration), the convenience store owner and one of the fighters in the video, mentioned that numerous visitors have been dropping by just to see his cats since the clip went viral.
"A couple from Kuala Lumpur specifically came here to buy food and feed the cats, which touched me deeply," he said. "Another person, who traveled from Johor to attend a wedding in Penang, also came to the store after seeing the video and gave a small tip to support the cats I raise."
Wu shared that he started keeping cats in his grocery store in 1996, with his first cat being a female named Meowmi, who passed away in 2012. Currently, he has six cats at the store: Meowbo, Tuapoi, King, Neowchuboi, Leopard, and Dandan. He also has five cats at home.
"I’ve developed a deep bond with the 11 cats I have, all of which were formerly strays that wandered into my store," Wu said. "I love keeping cats because they have cute and gentle personalities and do not attack people randomly. My cats also do not defecate or urinate randomly in the store or at home, so there are no hygiene issues."
