Malaysian University Student Rescues Cat and Her Two Kittens from Near Drowning in Drain During Rainstorm
Some of the most vulnerable beings on Earth are stray animals without a place to call home. Often exposed to harsh weather and natural elements, these creatures can find themselves in perilous situations. However, one young woman, witnessing such a scenario firsthand, decided to step in and potentially alter the course of life for a few felines.
A Malaysian content creator known as Teha recently recounted an incident that occurred while she was walking to her bus stop after university classes. Hearing faint meows coming from a deep drain, Teha discovered a mother cat and her two kittens stranded there, with rising water levels due to the rainy weather.
Documenting the events on her TikTok page @tehania_, Teha shared the rescue mission she embarked upon to save the distressed feline family.
Upon discovering the cats, Teha realized the mother was signaling for help to rescue her kittens, stranded where water was rushing forcefully. Attracting the attention of two nearby men, Teha convinced them to enter the drain and rescue the kittens and their mother, placing them safely on the roadside.
In the chaos, Teha found herself tasked with caring for the kittens, as the mother cat had fled, leaving them behind.
Taking temporary custody of the kittens, Teha contacted a friend who had stayed behind after class for assistance. The friend went out of her way to purchase cat food for the kittens to share.
“They were trembling! We couldn’t gauge how long they had been in the drain. We spent some time playing with them, contemplating where to relocate them, or even considering taking them home. Their mother had vanished,” Teha wrote in a caption accompanying the video.
After waiting for about two hours, missing two buses in the process, Teha persevered, hopeful for a resolution.
Fortunately, a heartwarming reunion ensued when Teha's friend, who had left to buy cat food, spotted what she believed to be the kittens’ mother near a shop lot nearby. Taking a chance, Teha brought the kittens to the adult cat to test the connection – and fortunately, it was the mother.
“Their shelter was behind one of the shops. So she took them there. Afterward, we headed home. We caught the bus at 4 p.m., but only reached home at 7:21 p.m. It's alright. Saving a cat's life was worth it!” Teha concluded in the video caption.
Teha received widespread praise for her compassionate actions, with many lauding her and her friends for rescuing the mother cat and her kittens, despite the heavy rain and potential danger posed by navigating the rocky and unstable drain.
“God sent good people to assist them. May all your future endeavors be met with kindness,” commented one user.
