Malaysian Heroically Rescues Stranded Cats During Penampang’s Worst Flood
The Penampang district in Sabah is currently experiencing one of its worst floods in recent history, with floodwater levels reaching a staggering 10.05 meters on the night of Sunday, June 30th.
According to BERNAMA, residents are calling this the worst flood ever in the district's history.
As of yesterday, 464 people from 140 families have been evacuated and housed in four relief centers, with the number of evacuees at the Penampang Cultural Hall rising to 279 people from 93 families, compared to 165 people from 67 families the previous day.
Malaysian Woman Heroically Rescues Stranded Cats During Penampang Flood
Amidst the chaos, a heartwarming story emerged when a photo of a woman rescuing several cats on a tube float boat captured the attention of Malaysians.
The photo, shared by several individuals online, including Tasha Nat on Facebook, shows the woman holding tightly to four cats after going above and beyond to save them from the rising floodwaters.
The selfless act touched the hearts of Malaysians, who began searching for the woman's identity.
Among those searching was Tasyah Tni from Pet Wellness, a grooming and cat care boarding center based in Kota Kinabalu, who wanted to provide free grooming for the rescued cats.
The Selfless Woman Identified as Dr. Phoebe
The kind woman was identified as Dr. Phoebe, a dentist from the Dr. Natasha Dental Clinic.
In the comments section of Tasyah Tni’s post, she revealed that she had since been in contact with Dr. Phoebe to offer assistance.
Many Malaysians praised Dr. Phoebe in the comments for her compassionate actions. One commenter mentioned being touched by Dr. Phoebe’s effort to save the cats, while others prayed for the safety of Penampang residents and animals during this natural disaster.
