Malaysian Food Vendor Faces Criticism for Offering 'Nasi Bajet' at a Lower Price Than Rahmah Meals
In a world where meal prices are soaring, a generous food vendor offering delectable dishes at an affordable rate finds herself under scrutiny. Recently, a Malaysian woman recounted an encounter with a man who questioned her for selling meals at a lower price, expressing concerns about the potential impact on other vendors in her business community.
The Malaysian woman shared her experience on her X account, @NurulShima_3, detailing the unexpected interaction with a man who visited her stall. Recounting the conversation, she shared how he initially inquired about the meal's price, asking if it was RM3.50 per serving. He then questioned whether the cost covered individual dishes or a mix with rice.
"He made me stunned," she revealed, describing how he abruptly asked, "Are you trying to take away the earnings of other rice sellers?" The man scolded her, insisting that she raise the price to RM4.50 to align with the 'Rahmah' menu.
To avoid escalation, she offered a free packet of food to the man, suggesting he give it a try. Unfazed by the disagreement, she said, "If it’s good, you can come back to buy later."
The tweet has gained over 948k likes, with many netizens sharing their thoughts on the matter. In the comments, a curious netizen questioned how she could afford such low prices, acknowledging the concerns raised by the man. She explained that her stall operates only in the evening, with no nearby competitors, especially during lunch hours.
"I’ve been running this budget rice business since 2020. The prices have remained the same, with no increases. If we can purchase ingredients affordably, it’s only fair to sell them at a reasonable price. There’s still profit, not looking to incur losses," she clarified, inviting the netizen to try her meal.
Another customer praised the deliciousness of her meals, recommending the stall to others and expressing support. "Highly recommended! Section 7, in front of KD mosque." What are your thoughts on her pricing and the criticism she received? Share your opinions in the comment section.
