Malaysian Faces RM2K Electricity Bill from 24/7 Air Conditioning Usage, More Than House Loan
Amidst scorching temperatures resembling an oven, air conditioners become our saving grace. While a fan might suffice on occasion, the discomfort without AC is unimaginable. However, amidst the comfort, there's the looming concern of the electricity bill. In a Facebook post gone viral, Malaysian resident Rose Tiara expressed her astonishment upon receiving her April electricity bill—a staggering RM2,072.73!
Rose confessed to running the AC for nearly 24 hours daily due to the relentless heat, maintaining the temperature at a chilly 16°C for maximum comfort. Despite suggestions to set the temperature between 24°C and 26°C for efficiency, Rose insisted on the icy 16°C for her desired level of coolness.
Labeling the exorbitant electricity bill "more costly than her mortgage," Rose faces a total payment of RM5,831.75 by May 14, including outstanding dues amounting to RM3,759. She clarifies that her intention wasn't to complain but to express her shock.
Acknowledging her responsibility, Rose intends to settle the bill despite its hefty sum. She notes that this is the first time her electricity bill has exceeded RM2,000, with her previous highest payment being RM1,600.
To mitigate future costs, Rose has opted to install solar energy solutions.
