Malaysian Chef Impresses South Korean Colleagues with His Exceptional Nasi Lemak
In a video shared on his TikTok page @fikriakram91, Malaysian content creator Fikri showcased his preparation of nasi lemak for his colleagues, aiming to introduce this native dish to their South Korean palates. At the outset of the clip, Fikri demonstrated the extensive effort he put into cooking.
From frying chicken pieces to crafting his own sambal, Fikri meticulously sliced cucumber, boiled eggs, and infused pandan into his rice for added flavor. Assembling everything into a single package to present to his colleagues, Fikri arranged all the components on a table at his workplace before his eager coworkers indulged in the meal with their spoons and chopsticks.
Offering background information to his coworkers, Fikri explained that nasi lemak holds the top spot in Malaysian cuisine (and he's not mistaken!). As they gathered around, Fikri observed their excitement, as they loaded up on sambal and fried chicken.
During the meal, each colleague appeared thoroughly delighted, returning for second and even third servings. While one colleague relished the dish so much that he licked his fingers, another wiped sweat from his brow due to the spice level.
"They found it quite spicy, but they couldn't resist asking for more! Luckily, they all enjoyed it despite the heat," Fikri remarked in a caption overlay.
Towards the video's end, Fikri's boss, identified as Mr. Park, joined the group. Despite ending the meal sweating, everyone expressed satisfaction with the nasi lemak, even pitching in to clean up afterward.
Fikri mentioned that he has been working in South Korea for approximately seven months and intends to continue sharing Malaysian dishes with his colleagues. Garnering praise from Malaysians online, many commended Fikri for introducing this local delicacy to South Korea, suggesting he could potentially establish a Malaysian food venture there.
"He enjoyed it so much he even nibbled on the banana leaf," remarked one user, referring to Fikri's colleague.
Another user noted the unusual sight of one of Fikri's teammates eating nasi lemak with chopsticks. Fikri defended his colleague, stating it's part of their culture, as South Koreans commonly use chopsticks instead of spoons. Nevertheless, another user praised Fikri's other colleagues for eating the dish with their hands, as that's the traditional way to enjoy nasi lemak.
Ultimately, one particularly heartwarming comment described cooking as Fikri's expression of love.
"How heartwarming it is to witness your food disappearing gradually. All the effort and fatigue you experienced while cooking become worthwhile, even though it required time and money," remarked another user.
