M’sians Stunned by Rare Phenomenon in Kalimantan as a Lone Cloud Descends to the Ground
A viral video has recently captivated Malaysians, showcasing a peculiar phenomenon where what appears to be a small cloud descends to the ground.
The clip, reshared by @update11111 on X (formerly Twitter), has racked up over 530,000 views and more than 2,900 likes at the time of writing, leaving many Malaysians intrigued and baffled.
A Small Cloud Descending to the Ground
In the video, a single small cloud is seen slowly falling amidst misty skies at an unspecified location. Moments later, a group of men—likely construction workers based on their safety helmets and attire—rushed to the site of the descending "cloud."
When the cloud reached the ground, it surprisingly remained intact, resembling a large piece of cotton candy from a distance. More men soon gathered around the fallen cloud, with one even attempting to touch and hug it.
The Incident Took Place in Kalimantan and May Be Linked to Mining Activities
The event reportedly occurred at a mining site in Muara Tuhup, Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, on the Indonesian side of Borneo.
According to the Indonesia-based portal VOI, Andri Ramdhani, Indonesia’s Director of Public Meteorology, clarified that what appeared in the video was unlikely an actual cloud. Instead, it was most likely a condensation of water vapor or gas caused by human activities in the mining area.
Andri explained that natural clouds cannot descend to the surface as dense clumps because their particles are extremely light and dispersed with low density.
He suggested the "cloud" in the video was likely formed by the release of high-pressure gas from mining operations, combined with the region’s low temperatures and high humidity. This unique combination may have created the unusual sight that left so many in awe.
