Coldplay's Kuala Lumpur Concert Generates RM51.9 Million Revenue with Over 81,000 Tickets Sold, Marking Their Highest-Attendance Event to Date
The renowned British alternative rock band Coldplay embarked on their Music of the Sphere World Tour, marking their inaugural visit to Malaysia with a sold-out performance at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on November 22, 2023.
Despite only hosting a single show in Malaysia compared to multiple performances in other countries like Singapore, Coldplay's concert in Kuala Lumpur garnered significant attention for setting a new attendance record at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, drawing over 75,000 fans.
Fast forward three months later, the full extent of Coldplay's debut concert in Malaysia has been unveiled. The Kuala Lumpur show emerged as a monumental milestone for the band, as disclosed by the Coldplay Charts X account. It became the highest-attended concert of Coldplay's career, with an impressive 81,812 tickets sold, grossing an astonishing USD10,904,369 or approximately RM51,953,866.
It's noteworthy to mention that while Coldplay had previously headlined larger musical festivals worldwide, the standalone concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium recorded the highest attendance in terms of ticket sales.
For comparison, Coldplay's recent performance at Japan's Tokyo Dome sold a total of 97,627 tickets over two days, indicating that the Kuala Lumpur concert nearly matched the attendance of the two-day event in just a single show.
However, it's important to consider that the official attendance figure for the Coldplay concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium was never disclosed, with only an estimation of over 75,000 attendees provided. Additionally, the 81,812 tickets sold may not directly correlate to the number of attendees, as some ticket holders may not have been able to attend the concert.
Therefore, regarding our previous article on Kuala Lumpur's low return rates for Coldplay's LED wristbands, based on the new ticket sales figure, if the claimed 81,812 concertgoers attended the show, it implies that a minimum of 7,363 and a maximum of 8,181 people did not return the wristbands after the concert.
