Bukit Jalil Stadium Achieves Record Attendance with Coldplay's Concert in Kuala Lumpur
Coldplay's recent show in Kuala Lumpur marked a historic moment for Bukit Jalil National Stadium, drawing its largest-ever crowd with a record-breaking attendance of 75,000 fans on Wednesday night, November 22.
Fly FM reported that this achievement secured Coldplay's place as the artist with the highest single-day concert attendance in the history of Bukit Jalil National Stadium. Notably, this figure does not include those who, unable to secure tickets, gathered outside the stadium to participate in the sing-along experience.
This concert, part of Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour, featured a two-hour performance comprising 26 songs. The stadium was filled with fans passionately singing along to beloved tracks like Fix You, Paradise, and Yellow, making it a memorable experience for attendees who dubbed it "the concert of a lifetime."
Lead singer Chris Martin expressed gratitude during the show, stating, "Thank you for waiting 27 years for us to come to your country." This event marked Coldplay's return to Malaysia since their debut in 1997.
The high anticipation for Coldplay's concert was evident even before the event, as concert organizer Live Nation reported a staggering 400,000 fans in their virtual queue seeking tickets in May. The actual turnout of 75,000 surpassed expectations and outshone the attendance of other notable acts, such as BLACKPINK, whose March performance in Malaysia drew 62,000 fans.
For context, Coldplay's own record for the largest attendance in a single show was set at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, in 2017, with just over 80,000 attendees.
Fly FM also noted that the previous record for the most-attended music event at Bukit Jalil National Stadium was held by Malaysian pop sensation Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, who attracted 70,000 attendees in 2004.
