3 UiTM Students Killed by SUV While Returning to Campus After Dinner
Three students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun lost their lives after being struck by an SUV in Kampung Sura Hujung, Terengganu, on 9 October.
According to Harian Metro, the accident happened at 7:20 pm when a Honda CRV crashed into two motorcycles carrying four students. The impact threw one victim into a drain, while the SUV skidded and ended up in another nearby drain.
The victims, identified as accounting students Ku Adib Aizab Ku Azmi and Khairil Anuar Jamaluddin, along with hospitality student Mohd Akhmal Tukirin, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers.
A fourth student, Mohd Ammar Danish Mohd Rodhuan, survived the accident and was rushed to Dungun Hospital.
Dungun district police chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir stated that the accident occurred while the students were returning to campus after dinner. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
Berita Harian reported that one of the victims was the son of the newspaper’s assistant editor. The victim’s parents were on a flight to perform Umrah as part of a company programme at the time of the incident. Upon receiving news of the tragedy, they boarded a return flight to Kuala Lumpur at 1:55 am on 10 October.
