21-Year-Old Woman Tragically Killed After Container Overturns and Crushes Her Car at Penang Traffic Light
A tragic accident occurred this morning (November 13) at 9:16 a.m. on Jalan Bukit Tengah, Penang, where a young woman lost her life and a man was injured after the vehicles they were in were struck and crushed by a container that fell off a trailer.
The 21-year-old woman, identified as Lee Zi Rou, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. According to a report by Harian Metro, Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue (BBP) Operations Commander Mohd Nor Azamuddin Abdullah said his team responded immediately upon receiving an emergency call about the incident.
"Upon arrival, we found that the accident involved five vehicles—three cars and two lorries, including the trailer. Two people were trapped due to the overturned container," he explained.
The 25-year-old male victim was freed from his vehicle by bystanders before the fire department arrived and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Firefighters used special equipment to free the trapped woman, but despite their efforts, she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. "Her body was then handed over to the police for further action," he added.
The fire department, assisted by two cranes, later worked to remove the fallen container and cleared the scene.
Earlier, videos and photos of the accident went viral online, showing the trailer making a sharp turn at the Jalan Persekutuan traffic light intersection in Bukit Tengah, causing the container to overturn and collide with several vehicles waiting at the light.
