13-Year-Old from Kedah Detained for Attempting to Stab Grab Driver Over Insult and Demand for Refund
In a startling video circulating on Malaysian social media, a 13-year-old boy attempted to stab a Grab driver before fleeing when he realized the severity of his actions. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has subsequently arrested the boy.
Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed as the boy only succeeded in stabbing the man's seatbelt.
A netizen named Pentadbir shared the interior dashboard camera footage of the incident on the Penduduk Sungai Petani Kedah Facebook group.
In the video, the Grab driver can be seen reprimanding the boy for seemingly making him drive aimlessly without clear directions.
"I am someone who is using a car to earn money, not to help you go in circles. I am not your father," the driver told the boy.
Upon reaching their destination, the driver took out some money from his pocket, prompting the boy to brandish a knife and attempt to stab the driver in the chest. Fortunately, the knife struck the driver's seatbelt, prompting the driver to grab the knife and bite the boy's hand when he refused to let go.
Realizing he was losing the altercation, the boy eventually released the knife and fled from the car, leaving the weapon behind.
According to a Berita Harian report, the incident began when the boy asked the driver to lend him RM50 to pay rent for his house and claimed he had no money to cover the journey to his destination.
"However, the driver said that if there was no money, he had to drop the boy off at their current location. Still, the teenager refused and asked him to take him back to his house in Bandar Sri Astana to collect money to pay the fare," shared Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan.
Upon reaching his house, the teenager instructed the driver to take him back to Taman Keladi, and the driver received a payment of RM18.
The boy then directed the driver through small alleys, prompting the driver to once again suggest dropping off the passenger and requesting an additional payment of RM9, to which the boy handed over RM20.
Allegedly, the boy stabbed the driver due to feeling insulted by the driver's words and wanting to reclaim the money he had paid.
