"Surprised to See Them Still Around" – Children Riding Modified Bicycles Spotted Performing Stunts on Gombak Road
The accident involving Sam Ke Ting, where 8 kids on modified bikes, commonly known as Basikal Lajak, were involved, should serve as a stark reminder and a lesson for all road users, especially the youth who jeopardize their lives by riding Basikal Lajak on the roads.
If the tragic incident with those 8 kids doesn't effectively raise awareness, it's unclear what will. In a TikTok post that has gone viral, shared by an anonymous Malaysian, three kids on Basikal Lajak were recently seen on a narrow road in Gombak, Selangor. All three were performing stunts resembling the Superman pose as if they were soaring through the air.
One of the kids even had his bike on the lane in the opposite direction near a corner. The danger of such actions is evident. Upon noticing a car behind them, the kids made way for the car to overtake.
Given the narrowness of the road, the driver had to overtake by driving on the opposite lane to avoid a collision with the Basikal Lajak riders.
Even as the driver passed, the kid in the yellow shirt maintained his "lying flat" position on the bike. Some netizens expressed their views in the comments.
"If I see my family members riding the Basikal Lajak, I would've sold the bike."
"I was in the car with my cousin, and there was a kid on Basikal Lajak in front of us. My cousin accidentally hit the kid because he stopped his bike all of a sudden."
"I thought the generation of Basikal Lajak kids were gone. Didn't know they're still out there."
"I hope the tragedies and history will not repeat itself."
"I guess this is fine, but not concerts."
