Property Agent Teases Customer for Declining Condo Offer: 'You Can't Afford It Either'
A Malaysian man's casual inquiry about a property took an unpleasant turn when a property agent mocked him for his perceived inability to afford it, sparking widespread outrage on social media. The incident, now viral on Facebook, unfolded as the man sought information about a MYR 300,000 apartment in Pulau Melaka.
Despite clarifying that he was merely gathering details and had no intention of purchasing the unit, the agent's response was dismissive and taunting. Even after repeated assurances of disinterest, the agent continued with a mocking message, complete with laughing emojis, asserting, "You can’t afford this unit."
Shocked by the agent's disrespectful behavior, the man shared screenshots of the conversation on Facebook, prompting swift condemnation from netizens who criticized the agent's arrogance and lack of professionalism.
Joseph Tan, a property agent with four years of experience, emphasized that such a response from an agent is unacceptable under any circumstance. Tan highlighted the importance of respecting clients' decisions, even if they choose not to pursue a purchase, as it ultimately saves time for both parties.
Despite the frustrations agents may face when clients decline or ghost them after extensive efforts, Tan stressed the need for professionalism and acceptance of the challenges inherent in the job.
Netizens echoed their anger, repeatedly using the phrase "狗眼看人低," meaning "looking down on others," to describe the agent's behavior.
